One of the most magnificent operas in Verdi's oeuvre will be one of the most spectacular productions prepared in recent years on this stage. The show is directed by Anna Wieczur (she previously staged Leonard Bernstein's Candide at the Baltic Opera in 2018), with musical direction by George Tchichinadze, set design by Damian Styrna, and costumes by Anna Chadaj.
The action of the opera refers to the location of its first performance, although it reaches back to ancient times. The crux of its events is an impossible love between the titular Ethiopian slave and the Egyptian commander Radames. It is a touching story that portrays the conflict between love and duty, which unfortunately proves to be insurmountable.
The production of the Baltic Opera also features wonderful soloists. One of the lead roles will be performed by Małgorzata Walewska, a mezzo-soprano with an impressive artistic career and many successes on the international opera scene (including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera House in London).
