The musical is an adaptation of the book Sholem Aleichem, telling the story of a Jewish family condemned to exile from their native village in tsarist Russia.
"Fiddler on the Roof" is also a picture of change, the decline of tradition, which is talked about so much and which does not withstand the confrontation with new phenomena.
It is also one of the few musicals that beautifully, humorously, lyrically, and dramatically speaks about the fundamental values of life and the passage of time. The main character, Tevye, living with his wife and five daughters in Anatevka, must choose between respecting tradition and the happiness of his children. The poor milkman, whose faith, hope, and prayer allow him to face all adversities with a positive spirit and confront the difficulties of life, makes choices and decisions with a natural disposition and faith in the harmony of the world around him.
